Did you know that
Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre (two illustrious writers ) stayed at the Hotel Mistral on several occasions in the 1940s. For their relationship’s sake and to give space to their inspiration, they occupied separate rooms. The hotel is mentioned several times in their books. You can find all of their published writings in our library.
In the 18th century, Jacques-Philippe-Martin Cels owned a renowned garden in our neighborhood. Having made friends with famous botanists and explorers who travelled the world in search of new plants, he was able to plant some very fine collections of rare plants (over 4000 different species).
The painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté, nicknamed the Raphael of flowers, often came to paint in his garden. We like to keep his memory alive, so a wallpaper in the reception area pays tribute to him, as does the selection of reproductions and paintings hanging in our hotel.
